[ARCHIVED] The Commons Sidewalk Project

At the September 15th City Council meeting, the City Council authorized the replacement of the sidewalk within The Commons from The Port to the Plaza.  The attached map depicts the location of the project.  Sidewalk replacement will include widening the sidewalk from 5’ to 7’ to better accommodate pedestrian traffic.  The sidewalk replacement work will begin on Monday, September 22nd and is anticipated to be completed in two weeks; weather permitting.  The contractor will close the sidewalk at 7:30AM to facilitate operations which include old sidewalk removal, excavation to widen the existing walkway, aggregate installation, concrete forming and pouring of new sidewalk.

During the duration of the project, the contractor will attempt to have the sidewalk open for afternoon and evening use.  There will be segments of sidewalk that will remain gravel as concrete is removed and repoured.  Whether the sidewalk is reopened for afternoon and evening use is dependent on whether temperatures permit the sidewalk to adequately harden.  The sidewalk may need to be closed if conditions do not allow for it to reopen for afternoon and evening use.  Staff and the contractor will do their best to accommodate pedestrian traffic outside of working hours.  Proposed working hours are 7:30AM-4:00PM barring weather or unforeseen circumstances.

If you have any questions, please contact Public Works at (952) 653-3676.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make important improvements to The Commons.
