Responsibilities
The Excelsior Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) is charged with identifying and recommending for preservation the important architectural elements of Excelsior's history. The seven commissioners are Excelsior residents, appointed by the mayor with the approval of the City Council. Commissioners receive no compensation for their service.
If your building is in the Downtown Historic District or has been designated as a Heritage Preservation Site, you may need the approval of the HPC to make changes to the exterior of the building. You may also need approval to demolish any part of the structure or for new construction.
