What you need to know as a Excelsior home and property owners:
The city strives to ensure motorists and cyclists can move safely and efficiently on city streets. We want residents and visitors to easily be able to get around our community.
The Street Department's primary responsibility is to keep the city streets in a safe and good condition through snowplowing , sanding, crack sealing, sweeping and filling potholes within the city rights of way. They are also involved in the maintenance of sidewalks, trails, catch basins, ponds, and storm sewer mains throughout the city.
City code prohibits vehicles from being parked on city streets during street maintenance, snow emergencies and more.

Local (county, city, school board), state and federal elections are held in even-numbered years. Primary elections are held on the second Tuesday in August. General elections are held on the first Tuesday in November.

Excelsior contracts with Republic Services for pick-up of recyclable materials, organic recycling, yard waste, and residential waste. Residents must use Republic Services for refuse and recycling services. Recyclables are picked up at the curb every other week on the same day as your normal refuse collection. Materials must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. except following a holiday, pick-up will be one day late for the rest of that week.

All dogs six months or older are required to be licensed in the City of Excelsior. Dog licenses are valid for the period of January 1 until the following December 31. Click here for more information.

The Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission (LMCC) serves the Cities of Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood Independence, Long Lake, Loretto, Minnetonka Beach, Shorewood, Spring Park, St. Bonifacius and Woodland.
Recreational Fire Permits are issued through the Excelsior Fire Department. Excelsior Fire Department provides services to those who live, work and play within the Cites of Excelsior, Deephaven, Greenwood, Shorewood and Tonka Bay. To obtain a permit, you will need to create a profile account through Community Connect. Once you have created an account you will be able to apply for a permit.
Excelsior is served mainly by the Minnetonka School District. There are also several charter and privates in the area. Several are listed below.
The Minnetonka Public School District is among the highest performing school districts in Minnesota and the nation. The district serves more than 10,900 students in 10 communities: Minnetonka, Chanhassen, Deephaven, Eden Prairie, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, Tonka Bay, Victoria and Woodland.
The International School of Minnesota community is welcoming and diverse; a blend of different cultures and perspectives under one roof. The school serves students from all over the Twin Cities metro. The private school is located in the heart of Eden Prairie, MN.

Eagle Ridge Academy is a highly rated, public, charter school located in Minnetonka, MN The school serves more than 500 students in grades 6-12.
